DEPARTMENT: Media Planning
REPORTS TO: Media Supervisor


Senior Media Planners are primary team leaders on their assigned accounts.  They are 100% responsible for anything and everything happening in their markets and on their business. They are responsible for the development of the overall media objectives and strategies across both online and offline channels.  Sr. Planners are also responsible for the Media Planners and Assistant Planners assigned to work with them. They are tasked with training and managing their Assistant Planners.

The Sr. Planners are responsible for taking an active role in moving the business forward and for working with the media and account team to develop fresh, effective media ideas that can be presented and merchandised to the client.  Sr. Media Planners must think proactively about the client’s business and research and bring forth relevant opportunities that deliver on client objectives.  They participate in the development of the overall media objectives and strategies and implement day-to-day media planning. They also participate in departmental training and activities as needed.


  • Develop and maintain media plans, and related documentation including approvals and budgets
  • Utilize media research tools and resources to develop strategic client recommendations
  • Stay abreast of what is happening in local markets
  • Inform Supervisor of day-to-day activities and any situations that may affect any market plans, buys, etc.
  • Compile, with the Planners and Assistants, and evaluate media vehicles in relation to the advertising assignment
  • Manage delegation of responsibilities and assist team leaders in growth and development of Planners and Assistants
  • Negotiate packages 
    across various mediums
  • Evaluate media opportunities and provide thorough analysis for clients
  • Lead the gathering and evaluation of target research
  • Supervise goal entry, upon approval of market plans
  • Responsible for managing weekly status sheet and meetings with all requests and changes
  • Review competitive intelligence and work with planners to determine key findings
  • Work with accounting to insure that all discrepancies and billing items are cleared in a timely manner
  • Experience planning and executing digital and paid social activity


  • Digital and Paid Social planning experience necessary
  • Ability to work well with a team, function as a leader, and also work independently
  • Ability to understand client objectives and how they translate into media strategies
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated experience in formal and informal client presentations
  • Creative problem-solving ability
  • Ability to manage multiple people at various experience levels
  • Proactive thinker who can move the business forward
  • Accountable and strong attention to detail
  • Responsive and timely in completing requests
  • College degree in related field
  • 3+ years of Media Planning experience required Proficient on all media computer applications: IMS, AdIntel, Word, Excel, ComScore and Simmons
