22squared is looking for a Senior Communications Planner to join our growing team and drive meaningful connection with our clients’ audiences at every stage of the consumer journey.  

As part of our Communications Planning team, you will facilitate consumer-centric innovation and integration by encouraging cross-channel thinking, ensuring creative ideas are brought to life in a strategic manner, and that our creative is enhanced for every marketing channel—especially digital and social media.

Senior Communications Planner reports to the Communications Planning Director and will be responsible for determining how creative components (paid, owned, earned) work together to drive consumer action, and ultimately, business impact.

Our ideal candidate understands how to use data, intuition and cultural insights to map messaging strategy, communications goals, and channel opportunities to each phase of the consumer journey.


Strategic Output

  • Develop brand and campaign-level communication and content strategies based on business objectives and consumer behavior.
  • Oversee the development of communication plans with outputs including consumer journeys, audience insights, messaging strategies, channel roles, and ecosystems.
  • Develop messaging architecture and optimization strategies across all consumer touchpoints, especially within the social media landscape. Ensure all creative is grounded in audience insights and maps to platform usage and trends.
  • Establish and maintain strong partnerships with platform partners (Facebook/Instagram, Pinterest, Google, etc.) to identify creative opportunities and best practices.
  • Drive best-in-class creative development in partnership with Creative teams, making sure all concepts and assets align with broader communication strategy, media plan, channel best practices, audience usage, and trends.
  • Stay on top of the latest trends in customer experience, consumer journeys, digital platforms, and social media, and determine how to keep our clients on the cutting edge.

Agency Integration

  • Be a strong partner to Strategy, Creative, Media, and Analytics teams, helping our agency teams and clients better connect ideas to the consumer journey.
  • Collaborate with Strategy team to understand and deliver insights rooted in the intersection of the audience, channel insights and the brand message/goals.
  • Partner with Creative teams on guiding asset development based on audience and channel insights while also providing strategic feedback rooted in best practices for specific channels.
  • Serve as a central connection point with Media Planning, ensuring content creation complements its distribution plan.
  • Work with Analytics team to define the measurement strategy for the Communications Plan, including defining what success looks like across a number of platforms; make decisions about future initiatives based on data and performance.


  • 5-8 years experience in a social, digital, or communications planning role; retail industry experience preferred
  • Experience in paid social and digital media focused on engagement, reach and conversion across each platform spanning social and digital, as well as publishers and influencers
  • Expert knowledge and understanding of social media platforms and their media and creative capabilities, including how to tailor creative ideas for specific channels
  • Supports the development of strategic deliverables, with outputs including presentations, consumer journeys, comms plans, POVs, and briefing documents.
  • Takes ownership and produces high-quality deliverables over multiple assignments concurrently.
  • Independently produces client-ready work and presents his/her materials to internal teams without prior review.
  • Owns and maintains an expert understanding of the strategic goals and marketing landscape for their assigned accounts.
  • Expert in their client’s business, and demonstrates critical thinking and confidence while distilling data into meaningful insights and strategic recommendations.
  • Works with media to develop exploratory strategies for new platforms or platforms new to client; updates team on new platform development through POVs, memos, whitepapers, and other forms of thought leadership.
  • Engaging storyteller with effective communication skills, who has the ability to convince, inspire and motivate clients and peers with an appropriate mix of facts, logic and enthusiasm to persuade.
  • Actively looks for opportunities to apply new thinking, trends, frameworks, and technologies to the day-to-day work.
  • Expert knowledge of secondary and syndicated research tools, and comfort in contributing to primary research with Brand Planning when appropriate.
  • Is a clear and articulate communicator, and builds strong relationships across internal teams.
